Cant Shift Third Gear...help
Hi,
I have 83 SC with 115k miles. It was used by an ex friend. I can shift into all gears but third. I meet resistance so I don't force it. I dont know if I need to re adjust the shift lever...though its strange I can do first and fifth but not third.

Sounds like 3rd is blown! Bring it in to avoid further tranny damage!

oh .... should have read this post first 
... well i wasnt far wrong . Sounds like you need a 3rd gear set. I think your gonna be having some chunky gearbox oil. What happened Abe ? was it sudden or gradual ? you loaned your 915 to a ' friend" who doesnt get old gear boxes and thought " Porsche" ?

What happened was that I am in the middle of a divorce and my x to be decided to learn how to drive a stick shift at my expense. Finally, the court ruled the car was mine.....and guess what she probably destroyed third gear either intentionally or out of ignorance on driving the car

Like the others have said, it sounds like your third gear synchro assembly has come apart. Once the transmission is out of the car, it is a pretty standard repair.
