replacement air pipe off MAF elbow
For '87, 3.2liter - Is there a cheaper/simpler replacement for the small rubber hose portion of the metal air pipe that goes from the MAF elbow to the air/vacuum system? The rubber piece simply adapts the larger OD plastic air line to the smaller OD metal line. It's part number 930-110-328-05.
This is all on the backside of the engine, behind the intake/MAF. Hate to spend $140.00 just for a 2" stupid little rubber adapter. Thanks much, John |
i have the same problem, mine is split.
I read somewhere in here recently that someone had repaired theirs with a couple of layers of heat shrink tubing. |
What kind of damage is there? does the tube have a peculiar piece inside it? If not and it's hollow, I'd be looking at finding a piece of rubber the same diameter and fit as you have now and take it to a hydraulic supply shop and see if they can cut the current crimped piece off of it and crimp a new one onto the pipe like it currently is crimped. Or as stated, maybe put 2 or 3 layers of shrink tubing on it.
That part is not a pressurized IIRC, so you could probably cut the crimp off, put a new piece of rubber on it, and then clamp it in place. |
I don't like the heat shrink idea, mine severed at the large end of the taper. A simple piece of rubber tubing doesn't have a diameter that will fit both the small diameter pipe and the large diameter plastic line. The/a crimp fitting doesn't compress the larger hose, only the necked-down end. I'll look quickly for tapered hose pieces, I know that there are alot of much larger such adapters for the turbo crowd but I've never looked for tiny versions.
Thanks for both your comments, John |
Also looking for a solution...
What did you end up doing? |
I haven't done anything about it yet.
I discovered 3 broken head studs and now it's a full on rebuild. Not going to be getting to the plumbing for some time now. |
Sorry to hear about that...
|
There is a bmw part that fits, dont have the part#, but IanC has found it. Maybe Draco can find it.
|
All I can say is vacuum issues are a bitch.....I'd probably spring for the part.
