Default How to check engine wear ?

Hi,

I would like to get an engine wear check. How can I get a profound check ?

Vifa,

The only real way to determine engine wear is by disassembly and inspection/measurement.

One can perform leakdown tests which give a snapshot of potential valve and/or ring problems, however that tells nothing about pistons, bearings, timing chains, sprockets, and other internal wear parts.

So even with a good leakdown test the pistons and bearings could be in a bad shape ?

What about cylinder wear ?


Sorry for all the questions, but I have a lot to learn when it comes to engines.
