Hi,
I read somewhere that in the 80's Porsche produced a bus on VW basis but with a 911 3.2 liter motor. Does anyone know more about these vehicles? How much have been produced? I could not find a site on the web on this, anyone knows one? All info is welcome.

I've never seen or heard of it myself. People like to put 911 engines into vanagons, I think they use the 2.7, but I'm not sure. Let me know if you find out anything; any pix would be a nice addition to VintageBus.com

AFAIK, Porsche did not do this except perhaps as an engineering exercise.

That said, I've seen 2-3 Vanagon's with 3.2 Carrera engines and 915's in them. Both had Turbo brakes.

All were nicely done and quite surprising,... Big front oil coolers and A/C were used, too.

Yes, they were nicely done. My favorite was one I saw a few months back at the Pomona Swap meet. It was white, and sported Martini racing graphics all around with 993 rims. The thing looked good. To tell you the truth, I would not mind having one. Maybe someday I'll build one myself. Or maybe I'll tackle an old idea I had a while back after drinking more than a few. A Volkswagen Thing with a 3.3 turbo. I always get a laugh just thinking about it.

I've read about a couple of these conversions. I included the link to one below. As far as I know, Porsche never offered this setup from the factory.

The Weissach crew put together a few vanagons with 3.2 motors in them. The factory brought one to the Monterey Porsche Parade some years ago. Interesting to have a 130 mph brick flying along the autobahns! There is a 3.6 powered one with G50 5 speed here in so cal. I went for a ride in this beast. I swear the front wheels come off the ground!!!

Hello to all, I like this self-mad buses relly!!
But my original Porsche B32 much more!!!
No Joke!!!
It was build in 19984,
and the Chassis Number is
WPOZZZB32ZES200001
Iam interested in saling this bus,
for ca. 18.000 Euro

In 1978 or '79 a German tuner (called "B&B", I think), removed a perfectly good body off of a new 928 for one of their customers who had a VW Rabbit body fabricated out of fiberglass to fit the 928 chassis (this had to be a little larger than a stock rabbit which would not fit on the 928's chassis), for what was, no doubt, the ultimate stealth Autobahn cruiser (of that year, at least).

You can imagine the surprise of someone cruising along at 120 mph and having their doors blown off by what appeared to all the world to be a Rabbit going 150!

Hello dear Porsche friends and enthusiasts. I am hoping to make a B32 copy here in Norway, but unfortunately I need documentation on this fantastic vanagon. I have searched all over the web, but only found the manual for the car. Do any of you happen to have this documents? Or can put me in contact with people who have it? I would appreciate it so much if it was possible to have them. I know some other have been lucky to get them. Hope to hear from you.

R911, I have seen these threads and articles, but I need a copy of the original technical info on the car. Size breaks, what is done with the chassis, any upgrades on stabilization, etc. That's the only way they will let me start building a copy that can be approved. Sent email to the Porsche museum Germany yesterday as well, but they tell me to talk to VW.

Are you sure that`s the right chassis nr? Porsche uses 17 digits in their VIN
Tried to search up the number, but Porsche VIN file would not accept it

Yeah, and are you sure about it being built in 19984, that would be 17,966 years into the future.

But I hope it's all true. I used to have an '81 Vanagon (one of the last air cooled's, rebuilt the engine, poorly engineered cooling), back in the day when transplanting a 3.0 engine into it would have been only a little extreme. Too bad I missed that chance. I hope B32 or others can revive this design.

how about a copy of the Oettenger (sp?) - also a 6 cyl. but IIRC it was watercooled
