My steering wheel is off. Thanks for all the input.

In the end, this was a LOT easier that I first thought it would be. I need to get off the internet and just go to it... Another case of over thinking and worrying about something that turned out to be extremely straightforward and easy.

I ended up using a 1 1/16 socket because I preferred to use the 6 point rather than the 12 point 27mm that I picked up. Once the nut was off, the steering wheel came right off. I noticed that someone before me had scribed some marks to line it back up, so it should go back straight.

Now I can get to work on my turn signal switch which was the whole point in the first place...

Not at all! Better to be cautious and have it be a slam dunk than to forge ahead fearlessly and end up breaking something.

True. With my mechanical skills I always need to err on the side of caution.
All those posts where they say "it's an easy 15 minute job" end up taking me two hours. Lots of pondering first. LOL.

I have found this board and PP to be absolutely fantastic in the knowledge I have gained about my car. Thanks to all.
