911 a good "investment"? Yes, according to this site.
|
Investment no, fun, yes. If your looking for and investment I'd be buying apple stock.
|
Yeah... I also failed to understand how a mass-produced car like the 911 can become highly collectible. The turbo models and rare versions perhaps. but not the standard versions (SC, Carrera, etc.)... the production numbers are too high.
|
Who cares, just enjoy 'em.
|
Oh, and the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He shoulda said SC's/80's Carreras to put them all in the same category.

The only investment is our time, because we love it. From a financial point of view, it is not an investment, only an expense!

as already stated, invenstment ... NO.
however, we may be at or near the bottom of the depreciation curve on the SC/3.2 generation. so they can offer a LOT of enjoyment for relatively modest cost. when you consider purchase + depreciation + maintenance. the idea of buying a new 911 and eating that depreciation makes me feel ill. at this point in my life I just cannot justify that as I am hoping to retire soon. :surr: hmm.... depending on the results of the lottery this weekend, my attidude could change. :) |
'30's Bentleys, '50's Ferraris, for sure.
Run of the mill 911's - no. |
As long as the A/C blows cold, any late 80s thru early 00s pickup truck. Can be bought for 800 and sold for 1200 all day long.

however, we may be at or near the bottom of the depreciation curve on the SC/3.2 generation. I doubt the car loses any selling value when you buy an old 911 and keep it in good condition. Same can't be said about 99,9% of newer cars. So perhaps that can be considered a good "investment" among the used cars. PS: In Europe, the 996 has depreciated quite a lot. When you go to Autoscout, you'll see that the asking prices of good classic 80's 911's are same, or even MORE than the 996's. |
What you gain in investing in a Porsche is not money.
|
A good SC has been 8-10K for as long as I can remember. They seemed to creep up, maybe 10-14K, in the last ten years, but that all fell through. There are decent cars out there for a fair price, but decent and fair mean different things to different people. There are also regional price fluctuations that come into play. Right now a 964 is arguably the most Porsche for the money, and good Boxters are a bargain right now. I'd say a 01 Boxster S could be a sound investment in 25 years, but any aircooled car is money well spent in any regard.
For me, I could buy a 911 that would satisfy me for 10K, but I'm not the average Porsche owner. |
I think these cars are great investments .. you could buy one drive it around for 5-10 years and sell it for the same or about 1-2k less .. as far as cars go that is a great investment .. try that with a new GM you drive off the lot ...
