Question 1989 911t/930 Steering wheel spacer

Hi,

I am trying to find out if anyone knows of a spacer (ideally slightly concentric) that will fit the original "H-shaped" non-airbag steering wheel. This is to create slightly more clearance between the top of the wheel and the instrument console, and also more thigh room in the straight-ahead position.

Does anyone have any ideas if this exists, and if so, where I can get one?

As food for thought, you want to ensure that when moving the stock steering wheel out that enough of the splines still make contact with the steering shaft. I haven't seen any spacers for a stock wheel, however, you can get a 3"x 1/2" aluminum disk from McMaster-Carr (they may have some other choices too) that with a grinding wheel, electric drill, and maybe a Dremel, you could probably adapt it for your needs. There are lots of spacers available for Momo/Sparco wheels, just haven't seen them for stock steering wheels. You might call German Parts and Restoration in CA or Paragon Products in TX to see if any of their spacers would work with the stock wheel.

Keith, I think what you are looking for is an extended hub steering wheel. They are especially made with an extra inch of clearance from the top of the dash to the wheel. My 1988 Carrera was ordered that way from the factory and you might put an ad in Wanted Section to see if someone has one for sale. Personally, I would not attempt to use any less spline area than you already have on the existing wheel. Try to get one made specifically for the extended hub. FYI.
