Noise in front of car
I put a set of Bilsteins and turbo tie rods on my 85 911 a month ago. Very happy with their handling but have a problem with something in this area. It sounds like something is loose in the front end when I go over a bump.
I have taken the shocks off at the top to check and the main nut holding them to the strut is still tight. All of the nuts on the adjustment plate on top are tight as well. I have a Weltmeister shock strut rod installed and its all tight as well.
The tie rods were installed at Zims and the whole suspension aligned, and I trust their work.
Has anyone else experienced this on their car? Ideas??? Do not like the idea of something loose in the suspension and it did not make this noise before the shocks/tie rods.
TIA,
Joe

Joe,
From what you describe, it's hard to think up a cause/effect that would cause a noise. When you say you put Bilsteins on, did you put Bilstein strut inserts into black Boge struts? Is it possible that the nut holding the strut insert in the strut isn't tightened all the way? The tightening torque is 95 +- 7 ft lbs or 130 +- 10 nm's. Did you take off your brake calipers to put the Bilsteins on? Did you torque them back to 70nm? Can you feel anything when you hear the noise, through the steering, for instance?

Bill,
Did put the Bilstein inserts into the black Boge housings, and torqued them to factory specs (95 or so), did not take the brakes off when I put them on.
Am wondering if it has something to do with the Weltmeister bar, but it sure seems tight.
The only other thing was the Turbo Tie rods and they were installed by a good shop who knows what they were doing.
I am at a loss...
