30th Anniversary today of buying first 911
Put this up over on the 993 board. But with the comments on that '83 being looked at, I figured a trip down memory lane was appropriate here:
30 years ago today. Long, long, winding road of automotive enjoyment and education since then. Funny that my newest 911 is older, relative to its production date, than what I started out with when I was 18. Oddest thing of all? Going out to wash the C4S to pretty it up for our meet tonight in the same driveway that this photo was taken in 1980.

Gives me goose bumps. My 73S was so similar it's crazy. Mine was paint to sample, but a more bronze-metalic, thru the grill fogs, "tan" full leather interior/sport seats, full deco trim, alloy deck lid, factory A/C, and that crazy Becker that could record a conversation(forget the name).
Someone was serious about their mirrors. Thanks for sharing Ken. I find your posts helpful and pleasing here. Have fun at the "meet".

Happy anniversary. I'm approaching 10, but I can't name the exact day for #1. Cheers to you for record keeping. I've only got 3 notches on my broomstick and am regressing as well... each "new" Porsche has been older than the last... and more decrepit (I must say). LOL
cheers,
Brett

What a great story. My second Porsche was a new 911S--a bit over 33 years ago! Things have come a long way since those cars.
Here it was in Savognin, Switzerland one fall afternoon, and in Biloxi, Mississippi a year later. (Chocolate Brown)

Great shots, Edgy. That car covered a lot of ground!
I really like brown 911s...brown doesn't work on most cars, but it's about my favorite 911 color.

Lucky guy to get a nearly new one! Here's hoping I get to age 60..............after getting beat every which way at the track (including instructing a new-to-the-track guy in a stock '88 coupe) today I'm looking forward to a wonderful night's sleep on a lousy hotel bed.
So here's what the car became 3 years later. Influenced by the first 911s I paid attention to, the IROC cars and then the 930. Once I got into helping at the track, we crossed paths with a couple of IROC cars running SCCA. The orange one run out of Cal Club had Gotti wheels, and they pitted next to us one time at Willow Springs. Couldn't afford steel, so the bodywork is 100% So Cal fiberglass (Mitcom, if anyone remembers them). A container full of cast off 911 parts arrived to an wheeler-dealer in Berkeley, and a 2.7L engine was had for about 1/3 of what the going rate was. Surplus Recaro seats from the then-new Fox-bodied Mustang turbos landed in the Bay Area in quantity, so a bunch of us picked them up. This car was finally painted when I went to Phoenix to finish college ($400 from a guy in nowhere Cave Creek), and I ran it locally mainly in autocross and time trials. (I built an ITB class Scirocco for wheel-to-wheel.)
