Default Cost to fix crank after spun bearing?

Hey guys, another noob question. I'm picking up a 3.2L motor with a spun bearing. I'm going to do the tear down and rebuild myself (learning experience mostly) but how much does it normally cost to have the crank turned at a reputable shop? Trying to budget for my rebuild, with the understanding that it may be too far gone to save.

Don't be too disappointed when you get it apart! More often than not a "spun bearing" (extremely unusual in a 911 engine) means crank replacement, not crank repair. It also means rod replacement, at least the bad one(s), and then rebuilding/balancing to make a set.

If you get lucky, call Bill at Engine Machine Service, (310) 641-7019, in Inglewood, CA. He'll give you an idea of cost if the crank can be saved.

Good luck, and keep us posted. Remember, there are lots of nooks and crannies for debris to hide in a Porsche motor.

Thanks guys. The motor is from Al Zim, he told me he thinks it's going to be repairable and is working with me on it if it's not. I was just wondering what the repair was going to cost.

Just wanted to add that Al and Kirk at Zim's have been great help to a 911 noob. Al has been working with me on parts and the drive train and doesn't mind taking the time to educate me on the rebuild. Many thanks!

What are the nominal sizes available in undersized bearings?
