I seem to remember a thread regarding the possibility of the SSI headers/heat exchangers possibly being manufactured in larger primary diameters suitable for over 3.0 engines. Anyone have any info along these lines?

Randy,
The only reference I've seen is from Joel Reiser (PCA 964/993 technical committe rep) who said that we've been hoping for SSI's for the 3.6L engines, but nothing has been forthcoming. I supposed you could call John Daniels at Stainless Steel Industies in CA and ask. Their number in Bruce Anderson's book shows as 800-227-1486 or 415-883-2000

I believe they are making some 1.75" versions of their heat exchanger for these larger 3.2 & 3.6 litre engines used in the plethora of conversions being done these days,......
I would also offer that 1.875" versions are much better suited for racing versions of 3.5, 3.6 and 3.8 litre engines using longer duration cams than any of the street types ones that people usually use.
Primary tubes that are slightly too large for the displacement and camshaft being used really kill the low and mid-range torque.
IMHO, 1.75" would be ideal for streetable 3.2 to 3.6 litre engines. 3.2's would lose a little bottom-end power with this size tube but there are some things that can be done to regain the lost torque,.......

Randy,
You can also check with Rick DeMan at www.Demanmotorsport.com in Nyack, New York. DeMan is a distributor for SSI. He is a builder of Porsche race cars and engines. He can probably answer your questions.

I was just at the racers group this weekend at sears pt. and they had a 72 911 with a 3.6 liter motor tucked in there. They were running S.S. heat exchangers. This was a street car with over 300 hp-dynoed! Call them, they could let you know what size their using.
