Pelican August Wine Tour Beware!

Interesting addition here......I had the opportunity to drive a bit of this "scary" road today while going to see a customer. While I'm not up on actual specs of 2 lane roads AND I didn't actually get out of my rental car to physically measure the width (even though I had a tape measure with me-shame on me!), it sure seemed to be what I'd expect for a 2 lane "country road". It is actually kind of busy, so I fully expect we'll see some traffic, which will keep most in check a certain amount. But, the scenery is some of California's finest, and even at legal speeds, this will be a fine drive/day/event, IMO.
Sorry for wasting additional server space on this post, but I figured we've already tied up some of the server with this "warning".

Actually, in some spots it's essentially one lane, where with the radius of the
turn only one car can pass. There're other turns which are decreasing radius
turns into narrow blind corners. So, if one hasn't driven all the way from
Carmel to HWY 101, one can't really see all the hazards of this road.
Porsches owners who have driven this road on motorcycles would not drive
their Porsches there and predict "problems", hopefully they're wrong.
Since I won't be motorcycling to Laguna Seca, I'll be taking HWY 68
west and not Camel Valley Rd on the 14th.

Hi Ed,
Yes it is not the road that kills. It is when people do things on the road such as make dangerous passes on routes that are unfamiliar to them.
My own opinion is that many of the central Calif. and especially central coast roads were designed for traffic in the 1960s. When traffic volume gets heavy that's when you have the head-ons. As I mentioned, the Pelican drive will probably be safe because everyone will be careful, and the speeds and such are controlled. Since this thread was started, a few people have died on my favorite drive to San Luis Obispo county, on a two lane highway (State Rte 41 to 46). Just please be safe.

"Take 68 to River Road. Then parallel 101 on River Road to Greenfield."
Great idea! Ridden that on a motorcycle and then Carmel Valley Rd to Carmel;
i.e. about 75 miles in about an hour & 20 minutes (fast) ride from the Laguna
Seca Track. The river road part is a nice ride/drive and doesn't have any of the
hazards of Carmel Valley Rd for a car and basically no traffic with scenic views
too.

Not that it is the same Loren, but a guy named Loren put his business card on my driver's side window with a note on it sunday afternoon while parked at Home Depot. ....it said: "Nice car, come see us, Loren"
