Speedometer problem?

A.) send it to North Hollywood speedo and pay to fix.
B.) buy the plastic gear from Performance products and do it yourself.
I've done this job and it's not too hard if you know how to open the gauge up and can be careful.

If your speedo still works but the odo does not, you probably need to replace the little plastic gear (that costs $30!). I did this on my '85, and as butzip says, it can be done if you're careful and patient. I think the problem was that some grease that was applied to the original gear caused it to dissolve after 20 years. That's exactly what mine looked like. So put it back with no grease.
But if neither speedo nor odo work, then you should look further upstream.

I had hollywood speedo re-do mine when it happened. I actually sent all my gauges in and had them all cleaned and put new pointers to fresh things up a bit....looks like the dash guages are brand new. Also has the speedo re-calibrated since I was felt 100mph wasn't really 100mph...low and behold it wasn't it was more like 88mph. They said that all the old guages read really high...so maybe its time to fresh things up a bit.
