Default 1973 Muffler question (any early 911 could help)

Anyone know what the tip on the 1973 911 is supposed to be like? In particular, the 1973.5 CIS 911?

On my 1973.5 911, I had to replace the muffler about 18 years ago. At the time, they told me that they could not get the chrome tip anymore. So, I've had a black on until now.

On the Performance Products web site, they show one chrome tip that is long, with an angled slice on the back side. They say that is for all 1965-1973 911s. They show a shorter one, where the back is cut straight, for 1974 and on. The black one on my car is the short, straight cut one.

I can't see how the angled one would even fit on mine. So, anyone with a 73 911 with what they think is the original muffler and tip, and know how it fits?

Performance Products told me that the 74 and on mufflers come out in a different spot, so the cut out in the lower bumper for the muffler is in a different place. My muffler fits perfectly in the cut out.

Related to this, there are three dimples on the chrome tip. Anyone know how the factor lined them up? And finally, anyone know how far in the tip is supposed to be pressed on?

I've looked at countless pictures on the internet of early 911s. And, as expected, there were countless types of positions of the tips and variations. So, I'd love to hear from someone who believes they still have the factory installed muffler and tip.

Thanks.

That would be the right tip... Straight with a boloney cut at the bend of the inner muffler pipe.
Some were in my basement I have a couple.

The '74 and later cars just come out lower IIRC. The late valance is lower and the muffler tip dips down to clear the opening. I always liked the factory method of welding up the single outlet and adding the twin straight-pipes a la sport muffler. I would regard it as a tasteful addition to any early car. You will love the sound if you haven't heard a properly welded sport muffler.
