DME part numbers/years for 1987 911

I need a spare DME for my 1987 Carrera.

My 1987 has a refurbished DME:
Bosch part # 0 261 200 082
Porsche part # 911.618.111.14

I have been told 1983 - 1987 DMEs will work in my car and 1987 - 1989 will work in my car. I also heard that 1989 DMEs will not work in a 1987.

Does anyone know what DME's will actually work on a 1987 911?

Any DME 84-89 will work in your car. If the one you get does not have a chip in it, then you need to use your own. If you get a later 88-up model it will require a 28 pin chip, but the DME computer itself will work fine.

Russell

thanks for the info.
if I get a stock one, isn't there some difference in the idle speed for different years?

Yes, around 800 on the early 84-87 ones and 880 on the newer 88-89. But I doubt you'll see that difference. If your car idles at precisely 800 rpm then someone has set it there in the past decade. Replacing your DME with a newer one may not have any effect on your idle, and if it does, you can adjust it yourself.

Russell
