What tail is this?
Is this a factory tail for a 1980 sc? If so, what is it called and where can I get the missing vent?

Thanks for the link. It looks like this is an early turbo whale tail. Any idea if this was standard, a factory option, or just something the PO added?

This is a strange combination. The rubber you have is for the "tea tray" tail that was on all 930 cars with intercooler (78-89). The fiberglass part is the "whale tail" which came on the 3.0 Carrera, Turbo Carrera, and 1980 911SC Weissach. Some had no second opening, some yours, and some a much bigger one. You can look at the rubber and the fiberglass parts for a 911 part number to see if they are OEM or not. I have the same tail with the correct rubber, but mine needs replacing. The rubber is very expensive, and I have been shoppong for years with no luck.

Don I wonder if that is why the original owner had the rubber he has, he found the original price restrictive.
Eurospeed look for the Porsche logo or Porsche writing on the part. This will indicate OE ( original Equipment ) Just for Clarity: OE - Original equipment built to come with your car to the exact standards of the end user, usually with the end user part number or logo. OEM - Manufactured by the same manufacturer that made the OE part, but not necesarily to the same standards. will NOT have end user logo or name. Is usually a little cheaper due to this . |
Eurospeed,
I have one that I aquired some time ago for an "idea" that never materialized. It will need to be refinished (painted or anodized) but is in otherwise good shape. It is yours for $25.00 shiped to you. I can email you or post pics tomorrow. JP |
Hi
I have sent you a PM. My son made the post while I registered for Rennlist. The car is mine. Recent purchase. Hope to hear back from you. Thanks 737Aviator |
I had a customer 15+ years ago who had a gray market car with that exact same weird combo of non-intercooler 930 base and intercooler-era "style" rubber. I say "style" because it was NOT a factory part. We never could figure out where it came from; but it was definitely put on back in Germany when the car was new(ish). I may have a picture I can scan.

In Europe, this is the first year (76') Turbo tail.
