I ran a Carfax on 1985 911 Carrera that I have owned since June 2001 and got the following odo alert:

05/01/1994 153,650 Virginia Motor Vehicle Dept. Springfield, VA EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED CARFAX Advisor™
An EML title is issued when the owner discloses an odometer rollover to a DMV. Rollovers occur on vehicles with 5 digit odometers that go from 99,999 to 00,000 every 100,000 miles.
Mileage reported after this reading is potentially unreliable.

04/28/1995 53,650 Virginia Motor Vehicle Dept. Hampton, VA EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED

05/28/1999 Virginia Motor Vehicle Dept. Hampton, VA EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED

05/12/2000 172,000 Virginia Motor Vehicle Dept. Woodbridge, VA EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS TITLE ISSUED

The car now has a 6 digit odo.
The 1994 DMV note indicates that it had a 5 digit odo at the time.
Note the 04/28/1995 DMV notice.
I thought that 6 digit odo's were in use since that the late 70's.

Any idea what might be going on here?
