Jimmy Deering, Master Porsche Mechanic
I thought my 87 was running pretty well, then Jimmy Deering of Mobile Works East came over. This is what he did:
1)Install new clutch
2)Valve adjustment
3)Replace rear main seal
4)Install new head temp sensor
5)Oil change
He also cleaned up the slop in my gear shift and re-adjusted my Smart anti-roll bar, stiffening up the rear. He found several other little things, which he explained and fixed. Now the car is quiet (no valve clatter) at idle and makes all the right noises at speed.
The man knows his stuff, plus he's fun to talk to. He comes to you and is cheaper than the sub-par indy shops here in the Sacto area.

I doubt it CCG...

I've often wondered if a mobile mechanic could make a living at it... Overhead just went up a lot, I'm sure, with gas prices.
So, did you have the engine out already, or did he do it?

He did it. It was out in 80 minutes.

Well, I hope you payed attention to see how easy it was, and realised that there really isn't any trick to working on these babies, other than time and a few tools.
I've heard nothing but good things about these guys.

Steely: I believe Jimmy is it. He's based in southern Cal but makes fairly frequent runs up to northern Cal.
Ed Hughes: I did pay attention. And he made it look easy, even in 108 degree heat. However, he has something I don't...over a decade of working on these cars. BTW, I'm not a big Targa fan, but yours is gorgeous!

That is really awesome, it really helps to have someone that knows what he is going working with you to get P-cars up to their best.

+1 for Jimmy. He dialed in my CO setting and idle today. Knew what he was doing, gave me a few tips for my car and charged a more than reasonable rate for his services.

I would do a search on his name at Pelican - it appears there have been several complaints. Maybe he is overwhelmed with work - I don't know.
