eat the $4 and put a gallon of fresh gas in it, maybe an appropriate amount of some injector cleaner too (to at least clean the lines). wiggle-check the wires and see if it runs better.

As we have all heard before, I strongly feel that they are all $20K cars.....at a minimum. Unless you are like iceman and do all your own work I would be extremely cautious.

For $5k, if the paint is good, I don't see how anyone could go wrong with a deal like that. The truth is, you could get really unlucky and have to put in $10-$15k in repairs, but then you're still below $20k, which is pretty much what good SCs are going for these days.

Someone on Pelican apparently bought it...I would be interested to see it's progression as well...since I almost bought (too slow on the trigger). I wonder if it's as good as I thought, or if it needs a lot of work.

If it went for $5K, that was a steal! Wow. The Fuchs alone are ~$1,000.

FWIW, my clutch on my SC (83) is also grabby, and I have been driving it for 4 years now in autox, track, and street with no incident, and no slip. They can be a little touchy. A puff of smoke on start up (depending on how it was parked, and how long it sat, is completely normal. When they continue to smoke is when you have problems.
