The budget so far is $27K counting the engine acquisition price of $4200.

Here are some more pics...........

You can see the wear on the pistons..........especially in the pic of the single piston.......the vertical scarring and highly polished areas.........these P+C's are toast. We have ordered up a set of Mahle 3.5 liter P+C's.........they were only $600 more than the 3.2 set....so it is a cheap 10% displacement and HP increase.

This engine was an oil burner from looking at the top of the pistons in one of the pics.

Look at the pic of the two bearings....the one on the right is from a recent teardown of a 250KM 3.2 engine with regular servicing.......the one on the left is from our current teardown. See the scarring and bearing deterioration ? That is from infrequent oil changes and high temps.

We also found out what cams we had.....they are 3.8 RSR cams from 1995 production......

A valve spring kit from Jerry Woods has been ordered as well as their high perf bearing sets.

OK....we're moving along nicely.....

The car is at the body shop getting the interior stripped and painted with a 6 point roll bar welded in.

Here are pics of the engine before re-assembly.

Mahle 3.5 P+C's
3.8 RSR cams
Carrillo rods
JWE valve springs
Jerry Woods bearings
etc....etc....etc....

It has been balanced to less than 1 gram......in fact the shop told us they were at a zero difference.

Peter Beyeler at Alpine Autowerks is doing the engine and the transaxle, if you don't know of him, he is a 30 year Porsche master tech.............drop by and visit if you are ever in our neck of the woods. We are on the same street as South Centre's service department. I think I have seen your car there before.

The engine is going together now.......the transmission is already done......and the car is back from the paint shop in 2-3 days.

Next week, we start putting it together. The plan is to drive it by late February.....weather permitting.

It's -49 celcius today !!!!!!

The body just got back, roll bar is in.......I'll pick up the F+R bumper covers and sunroof on Monday.

Wheels are ready.......everything else is on order and we are still planning on driving at the end of the month. FWIW.....it cost $4,000 to paint the entire car exterior and interior (2 coats color + 1 clear) and weld in the roll bar. We stripped it completely before we sent it over obviously......

Great thread!!

That crank pulley look out of place with the rest of the rebuilt engine

I have to say, those old pistons look terrible, not to mention the bearings.

Yeah........no kidding eh ?......I have a new lightweight pulley kit from JWE for it......just haven't got it installed yet. We also glass beaded the valve covers, TC covers, fan cover, pretty much everything metal that was removeable, as well as installed new fittings and we also have a new green engine shroud etc.....everything will look new.

Bo....

Nothing personal, and thanks for asking, but I prefer not to pass their name around. I've been using them for 8 years and they are best kept secret.......they prefer to work for dealers as opposed to retail customers anyways.
