Anyone familiar with Midwest Performance Cars in Chicago? ...

Looks like a mini version of Victory; not that they necessarily deal with folks the same way. Just curious if anyone has purchased a Porsche from those folks and what they thought of the dealership. Many thanks!

I test drove quite a few cars from there. Also, when I sold my 88 Targa, the prospective buyer had a full PPI performed there.

IMO, seems like a reputable shop with quality cars.

I've bought two cars from them and have all the service I don't do myself done there. Tom (the owner) is a really good guy and dead honest. Emil, the lead Porsche mechanic, seems like he was born with a wrench in his hand.

I highly recommend them.

Thanks, guys. Always good to hear about any place you might do business with. Anyone else? Bueller.

Ya, I got my PPI done there and a bit of service. Really nice shop from my experience. Just pick up the phone and call Tom, he is a very knowledgeable guy.

I have purchased 3 cars from Tom and sold 2 through him on consignment. My most recent purchase, an extensively modified and set up 930 track car, continues to be serviced and maintained by Emil who has, time and time again, gone above and beyond to solve the somewhat unique challenges that can arise when you try and squeeze 400+ hp out of a 20 year old CIS car. All I can say is that Tom is as honest as they come and that he has a staff of mechanics that are focused on providing excellent service and building lasting customer relationships.

While I haven't had occasion to deal with Victory, based on what I have read on RL and Pelican, I don't think you should use these two shop names in the same sentence.

Feel free to contact me directly with any followup questions: montgomery.ra@gmail.com.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the feedback. Keep it coming if you'd like to comment. :)

Just to give you all a little inside information: Tom has calculated that he spends on average $3,000 on every car he takes in to get it up to speed. Obviously, some cars will be much higher and some cars won't need any work (lucky him).

Occasionally, Tom will take receipt of a car that he hasn't had a chance to take apart and perform those needed maintenance items. Those cars are usually priced lower than the one sitting next to it for this reason.

Interesting. His prices seem very reasonable. I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet.

Dang... I'm glad I saw this. He's got a few in inventory now that seem pretty interesting.

Not to hijack, but can anyone recommend another shop for PPI on one of them?

Don't I get first dibs? I mean, come on. :banghead:

He used to have twice as many cars, so he must have gotten rid of some...

No worries... I have to figure out if one will even fit in my driveway first. Which one are you interested in? Seriously, I won't snipe you.

He does have my "dream" one there... the red targa with the whale tail is exactly the car I've dreamed about since I was about 5. But... the cabs are interesting too.. always thought I'd forgo the red targa for a cab.

Honestly, he doesn't have my dream car at this point, but his prices seem very reasonable based on what I've seen from other dealers.

Yes, that seems to be the case with his cars, but one major problem I had with living in Chicago is the 9.75% sales tax. I instead bought from a private seller in Lake Zurich, IL, which saved me at least $1,500.
