930 brake upgrade: Part number question

I'm in the process of upgrading my '87 Carrera's brakes to 930 brakes, and I just took delivery of a set of front and rear calipers, supposedly from an '86 930. However, they do not appear to be a set of front and rears, but four identical calipers. Further, the part numbers don't seem to match any kind of 930 caliper I've seen, and they have two different part numbers on each. I've searched the archives for information on part numbers, but I'm not clear on the issue.

Here's what I have. BTW, they look just like every picture of 930 calipers I've ever seen. On the outside face, it says 930.352.541.1R between the fins right below the word "PORSCHE". On the inside face, it says 930.352.542.1R below the word "brembo".

All four calipers use the same size of brake pads, which can't be right for front and rear, can it?? It looks like these calipers are mixed halves, but of what?

According to various sources on the web, I've run across the following part numbers:

From Vertexauto.com:

RR: 930.352.092.RX
LR: 930.352.091.LX
RF: 930.351.092.RX
LF: 930.351.091.LX

From PelicanParts catalog:

RR: 930.352.092.03 ('78-'89)
LR: 930.352.091.03 ('78-'89)
RF: 930.351.092.03 ('84-86)
LF: ????

So what do I have? And what are the proper part numbers for F&R 930 calipers needed for my car?

Thanks!

Will

The #s given correspond to superseded spring plates.

The f/r 930 calipers are the same except for the bleed position - front is leading mount, rears are trailing mount and pistons - fronts are 38mm, rears are 30mm.

The same pad is used f/r.

When used at the rear of a 911 the caliper will need to be machined for 3" leading mount and have the bleeds swapped for use as leading mount.

unless you have turbo t4rilaing arms you are going to have to have the rear calipers modified to fit you carrera style banana arms. GAS Motorsports in LA area dies it for about $200

Doug at Vehicle Craft in New Jersey does nice work as well. I'm not sure what he'll charge for just the mod, but he'll be able to provide you with all the bits and pieces you'll need as well for the one stop shopping experience.

As you probably know, you can't just put a 930 rotor on the front of a Carrera, you'll need a custom hatted piece. In the rear, stock 930 rotors will fit. I got Brembo fronts from Steve at Rennsport Systems. They supposedly hold up better than other brands. They aren't cheap and may end up costing you more than what you paid for the calipers themselves.

You'll love the stopping power once you get them on.

Good luck.

Guys,

Thanks for all of the useful info. I've verified that I definitely have the right calipers, both front and rear. Fortunately, the rears are already machined for the Carrera trailing arms.

I'm going to order Brembo front rotors and hats, as well as all of the other goodies needed for the swap, from Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems.

Can't wait!

Thanks again....

Will
