FUCHS - 15? or 16? Newbie help
 

I am sure this topic has been chewed on before, hope you don't mind doing it again.

My new 88 has 15 x 6,7. Minimally, I'd like to move the 7s forward and purchase some 8s for the rear. But should I instead go with 16s (7,8)? Will they fit?

Note, currently the car is not lowered at all but I am also considering lowering to euro specs.

I'd love to hear how other people have set up their cars.

I have a set of 15x9 fuchs off of the front of my 928dp that might work. they have 225 50 15 p zeros .Thanks Tom 970 668 5057

I would go with 7 & 8 x 16's on the car. That is what I run on my '85 and I love the difference they make on it. My car has also been lowered to euro specs and they work fine. But they aren't cheap to buy. Best wishes - Jay

Mine has 7 & 8 16s....Easier to find tires for them also...you can also run 16X9s in the rear but they tend to be rather pricey. Mine is also set at Euro height

Unfortunately, 15-inch wheels are a losing bet when it comes to tires.

They do. I ran 8x10x17 Lindsey Fuchs on my SC-flared early car. I now run 9.5x11x17's on my widebody.

My 88 Fuchs are 16's, I thought they all were 16's by 88????

I would suggest that you not go with 15s for your car. The tire choices are dismal, and the widest you can go in the rear is a 225 with a stock 8x15 Fuch. Definitely go with 7 and 8 x16s (or 9" rears if you've got the extra dough). Not only can you get 245s in the rear, but the offset is perfect; your wheels/tires really fill out the wells perfectly giving you a nice, agressive/sporty stance, especially if you're going down to euro height.

Of course, I am mentioning only Fuchs in 16". If you open yourself up to other brands, or to 17", you have a host of choices ...depends on what look you want and how much you want to spend. Do a search in the archives for pictures so you can get an idea of what a given wheel will look like on a given body/color.

The factory wheels are great, but you can't really maximize your tire with them. With the Lindseys, you can run 275/245 on a Carrera. Here is my old car with that configuration:

I have 4 polished 7 & 8 16's from an '84 911 that I would like to get rid of. If you are interested make me an offer. FYI, I have $1,000.00 in them but would take less. They just didn't look that great on my silver Cabriolet.

If I go with 7 x 16 in front, what tire size? 225/50?

If I go with 9'' in the rear, then I do I still use 7'' up front?

This book I have, "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" says that 7x16s will usually have front tire clearance problems - even if the car is not lowered, but especially if it is lowered???

Or keep the 15s & get Toyo Proxes T1-S or T1-R. Great tires. Available in 205/50 & 205/55 & 225/50 . . .

Are you sure they're 6s & 7s & not 7s & 8s? 7 & 8 Fuchs were the 1st option level.

My 16x7s have no rub issues at all...I am away from my car so I cannot verify tire size...I am thinking 205 or 215....Euro height...normal camber for street...nothing fancy....8s in the rear have no issues either....it was a factory option...I don't know what book you are reading but I have never heard of a rub issue unless maybe it was with a 225 tire and then you might have an issue.....sorry I can't be more clear....do a search here or on pelican for tire fitment and you will most likely find all the info you will need.

I went with 7x16 in front and 9x16 in rear. Stock dimensions. They fit nicely and I have no rubbing. I think I have 205/245, but I'm not sure at the moment...
