Default Using a 964 motor cover

Hello all

I'd like to use a later model engine cover with retractable tail
on my 82 SC

But the hinge on car dont' appear to correspond with engine hood bolt hole.

Do I need to reshape the hinges in some way to make them usable

any thoughts guys?

Yes, you need to modify (or at least bend) a set of pre-964 hinges. The hinge spacing on the 964 got moved about 1 inch wider to allow space for the retractable spoiler. You can wire it with a power window switch and a load-sensing circuit, so that it works like power windows with a 'one touch' function to raise it or lower it.

i put one on mine and i bought a set of 964 hinges from the wreckers. They fit great and also have a spot for the gas strut on both. just had to weld a piece in engine bay for the second strut.

Was any alteration required apart from the hinges
In moving blower hose/air box etc
I'm just about to alter my own hinges, but if simply bolting on 964's is needed I'd rather do that of course

Aside from the hinges, you need to wire in a switch and a power supply. Then, as I mentioned before, you can also add a $35 unit that will allow you to raise or lower the lid without having to hold the switch count out five seconds every time you want to raise or lower it.

Default Switch

I've used my window switch to make sure it works,
and without using the micro-switches,
can (as you say) hold it a few seconds to lift spoiler
and reverse it down again

I'm now looking at which rating of fuse to put in-line
to prevent accidental damage to motor

any thoughts

Without the microswitches, you'll be putting the motor under extra stress. Were they not working?

This is a link to the load sensing device that will cut power when the load on the motor changes. There are wiring diagrams for this application on the Pelican BBS.

Here's a 964 decklid on my old 1973 911:

Cheers Jack, that looks an easy solution.

Can't find any hinges on sale with pelican though,
have you seen them on ofer anywhere but Por$che themselves
by any chance

Richard

PS autoloc's checkout, seems only to recognize the US
and not the fact the UK exists sadly,
I've sent them a message in the mean time

The guy on Pelican, Matt-Man, modifies the original hinges for $50.

Default new ones

I can get hold of genuines 964 hinges
for about $70
and I'm told they fit straight away, I did try to contact Mattman through his profile
a day or so ago but since not heard anything, it might be a good idead on this occasion to go new.

had a reply from autoloc by the way,
and they only trade in US for now,
I did a search on E-bay on the off-chance, but there isen't a sign of that product

does anyone know of anything else in the engine compartment, that may need
moving aside at all though, in advance

Richard

love the replica in black BTW

Default success

With the addition of correct 964 hinges, none of the fabrication suggested on other forums is needed, plus you get a more businesslike looking hinge

in tubular steel

The coil will indeed need re-siting with probably a bracket making

the electrics are drom the window switchgear,

and fed to a window-switch

fitted in an aperture I created for it, in the small square between the closed and open parts of the door cubby.

I've tested it just to make sure it all works, and so its off for painting
before someones thinks im driving s 'poliz' car from Italy

I plan to pick up a 964 deck lid and spoiler for my 83 SC coupe project and will hope to get the 964 hinges with it. The 993 spoiler switch looks like a good switch option as an alternative to a window switch. Where did others install the switch in the cabin? I've looked for the load sensing device Jack referenced on-line without success. Can someone please direct me to a source for that? Jack, the next time you're in Santa Barbara, stop by. I'd love to see your car! Thanks, Greg

Hey, Greg. There are a few different threads about this on Pelican. And Matt-Man modifies stock hinges to work -- I can't remember if there was an issue with using the 964 hinges or not, it's been so long.

The part (I'm pretty sure) is/was AutoLoc WC1000.
