wevo G50

I know there's a lot of g50 people over here who may not know wevo makes a nice short shift.
It's very nice.
picture sucks a little I had to resize a bunch.

What improvement/s were there Jerry in the new shifter?

J. Brinkley 01-19-2006 07:10 PM

short throws, more precise. I drove one that had one before I plunked down the money. But after driving the first time a month or two ago I knew I was going to get one. Hard to spend six bills without trying it out though. But I really like it.

Jerry,

I was actually looking at the wevo shifter for my track car, but as you say, it's hard to spend that kind of cash without testing it so I'm still on the fence. I do have one question though. What are you using as a shift boot to prevent crap from going down into the shifter?

KCPSG 01-21-2006 05:12 AM

Since I have one, I'll go ahead and answer for jerry. I was able to reuse my stock shift boot, you have to remove the foam liner on the inside and I had to trim the top of my shift boot...but I have the long shift boot that comes to just below the knob. According to Hayden @ WEVO if you have the short boot, all you have to do is remove the liner of the boot.

J. Brinkley 01-21-2006 11:50 AM

nothing's going to get down in there, unless you smoke or drink or eat. A skinny vaccum nozzle will fit, and if you take the AC out there's no need to put the console back.
I was thinking about putting a flat square of back rubber or wet suit material in there with a cut out in the center. But really, that's too much work. it's easy to take out and more than likley it will be out when I replace my last two fuel lines.
here's another pic after some carpet work.

sjanes 01-21-2006 01:55 PM

Thanks for the info. The A/C is gone and the center concole is going (I hit it when heel-toe), although I would like a more finished look that just the shifter sticking out of the floor. The wet suit material sounds like it may work.

I assume the two of you (Jerry and Phil) are happy with the shifter? Does it make a big enough difference to be worth the rather high cost?

J. Brinkley 01-21-2006 02:16 PM

in a list of stuff, I'd put it higher than a chip or a muffler, but lower than all new brakes or shocks or elephant bushings, SSI's, or new tires.
It feels good though, and after driving around some more, I'd do it again.
I think they'd let you return it it you didn't like it, and I doubt you'd have a hard time selling it yourself.
take a brake from buying goodies for a month, then it won't sting so much when you get it.

sjanes 01-21-2006 03:00 PM

thanks for the feedback. Since the car already has everything from 930 brakes to a 3.4L to track suspension, I'm looking at getting a more precise feeling from the shifter. Do you find the shifting more precise with the Wevo, or just shorter? While I'd like to have a shorter shift, I'm mostly interested in having a more precise feeling shifter while on the track.

J. Brinkley 01-21-2006 03:23 PM

have you replaced the two bushings down there with new ones? That could help.
But yes it's more precise than the stock. But I haven't really hammered on it yet, it's raining outside.

sjanes 01-21-2006 06:14 PM

no, I haven't replaced the bushing yet, and that may help a bit. Due to the close-ratio gearbox that I have, I shift a lot at the track (12 shifts per lap at my local track), so I'm hoping to get something that has the precision of some of the more modern shifters.

A question folks if I may: -
If you go directly to the Wevo site I can't find any reference to it but if you search on the web you can find it at Smartracing are they the only suppliers?

I take it that you can use the standard centre consol and short boot with it, how about the gear knob, is that changable?

Cheers

I personally wouldn't want to cover that up. It looks great!!

J. Brinkley 11-07-2006 10:31 AM

I'd just call wevo and ask the questions, pelican has it also, but you still have to call to get it. It isn't listed anywhere I don't think. I think the knob fits ?, and boots/consoles do fit over it.

thx
