Post Colored license plates - what do you think?

(I just posted this on the 993 forum, but some people don't read both... here we go -)

I've had this idea for a long time of colored license plates to match our cars. What would it take to vote this idea in with our Dept of Motor Vehicles in each state? Who wouldn't want a beautiful matching black license plate with white lettering on a black 911 (me.. me!). Or if you had Guards Red car you could order a red plate with black lettering to match your black interior. Maybe they could limit it to 12 different color combos, or what about 20! My blue/blue 911 would look great with a Light blue plate with dark blue lettering. Oooh la la.
You know how some people try to buy a car that works well with the license plate for that particular state [yes, there really are these types]? Now you could order a plate that would really complement your car. Some states just have ugly looking options... Arizona in particular. With the colored plates, you could design a nicer all around look for your car. I'd pay $50 for the vanity plate with color options. What do you think of this idea?

Steve - Silver Spring, Md - yeah, it's a slow news day.
95 740i Aspen Silver/Grey (a silver with black lettered plate would look great on this car)
99 XK8 (her's) Sapphire Blue/Creme (I would pay $50-75 extra to the MVA for the opportunity to have a dark blue plate with creme colored lettering - too cool!)

NAACP would definitely have a problem with this

Steve -

I hope you're not going to go out and buy a car to match those new orange/red/yellow/etc. Maryland "agricultural heritage" plates.

When I went to get tags for my "new" Audi, I was greatly relieved to find that I could still get the plain vanilla version.

They have got to be the ugliest plates I've ever seen (the Farm Plates)unless you have an orange car like maybe the 1994 911 Speedster...

This is the reason the color plates are such a great idea, in my ever so humble opinion.

just my 2 cents.

Plate visibility is the key. For instance light blue with dark blue letters would be hard to spot by police as would GR and black letters.

Perhaps, you could go with a nice pastel gingham with chartrouse letters.

I can't believe that I actually got to use those words together in sentence. Oh I need to drive the Pcar to get my testosterone (sp?) levels back up.

As Bill Gates has been known to say in a meeting, "that has to be the dumbest idea I've ever heard."

Why is this such a dumb idea?
I think it's a bloody awesome idea, if I don't say so myself. Just bloody wonderful! I've got a plate in mind for my 993 C4S I'll eventually upgrade to... Silver with black letters, to match the car.

Sweet.

Luckily, mine somewhat does....or at least it comes close enough. '83 SC euro in venetian blue with original california blue plate with yellow numbers......

And on a side note, has anyone seen the new "sept 11" CA license plates with the American flag on them? Is it just me or do they look super tacky?

later,

amir

I have a friend in Virginia with a white 914 with black top/interior/sail panels. Her historic tag is black with white letters. Very sharp, I must say!

Ahhh - so there IS an interest in my colored plate idea. )

I really love the demonic Delaware plates in black with the white lettering. What does someone have to do to get THAT plate? They seem smaller than regular license plates. Are there any Delawarians on this site? Are these hot plates reserved for bigwigs or something?
