Hope this does not rival the "which oil is best" discussions and I am not sure if I should post this in the Comp forum, but here goes....

My mechanic recommended I use steel lug nuts for DE events. I've seen on ebay people selling cad-plated steel lug nuts - to prevent rust.

We're only talking about $50 here for a plated set (vs $25-30 for normal), but is this worth it? Do steel ones rust? Does the cad plating work? Does the plating last or wear off? Anyone with long term experience here? Thanks.

I have a set of regular steel ones - about a year in a salt water environment and no rust...

I've been running straight steel lugs for street and track for two years. They do get some light surface rust, but whenever you take the wheels off it's easy to just 000 steel wool them clean.

For the track? Save your $$. Regular steel lugs are perfect. Get a few (half-dozen) extras. Have fun!

thanks for the comments and suggestions. i wondered if the plating would last anyway - at least where it's needed most - on the threads.
