Yes once as i got a deal on some. But i prefer m1 15w50 in my 964 and former 3.2, and run motul 300v in my hot rod and gt3rs. I also have run Valvoline vr1 with good results in the past if you want a Dino oil.

if changed regularly its probably ok, but the anti wear additives are a bit low from conventional wisdom.

Seems like the 10-60 value is stirring up controversy. Given that Pelican offers that lifetime replacement guarantee, after these next two oil changes using Pennzoil I might switch to the Porsche Classic oil and see what difference it makes.

i think I’ll have to get oil analysis done on samples of the oil after using bith to take the guesswork out of it.

so I’ll report back in approx 12k miles! (Change every 3?!)

For what it’s worth , Gulf makes a 10w60 motor oil , also available in a racing version ,which is most likely what Porsche rebrands as their 10w60 motor oil …
Not sure how much a liter of the Porsche oil costs but i use Amsoil Dominator 15w50 in both my SP2 car as well as my 89 911 with a 3.6 transplant !

Cheers
Phil

FYI: from Pelican's site:
What isn't Covered?
Products in tubes, aerosol cans, single-use packets, or fluids etc.:
Our lifetime replacement program covers hard parts, including performance items. However, things like oil, oil filters, coolant, glues, brake cleaner, dielectric grease, anti-seize, fuel injector cleaner and similar items are not covered.

This is why I use FCP. They take oil.

I saw (of course) a Porsche engineer talk about how the 10W-60 Porsche Classic Motoroil was specifically engineered for our cars.

Following advice on this forum and elsewhere I’m currently using PENN GRADE 1 71196 Synthetic Blend High Performance Oil SAE 20W-50.

One key reason why I’m asking before trying the a Porsche Classic oil is cost:
  • $120 for 8 qts for the Porsche oil
  • $67 for the Pennzoil

Maybe some of you have worked out that the Porsche oil is the same as another oil from another manufacturer?

I would like to see your cam lobes after 100,000 miles. I've used Mobil 1 15w50 on all my air-cooled for over 30 years. changes at 5,000 or twice a year. A 5 quart jug is $30 or so at Walmart.
But if you get free oil, maybe what you save you can use for an overhaul.

not sure if the Gulf you refer to is syth or not but there are only 3 entities that make synthetic base stock on the planet
Chevron
Ineos
Exxon/Mobil

and only 4 that make the additives
Chevron/Oronite
Infinium
Afton
Lubrizol

it doesn't matter who makes it
what matters is what's in it
look at the Zinc and Phosphorous levels in the oil analysis
look at the viscosity the original or builder if it's been rebuilt designed for

The Marketers Lie and cannot be trusted

Bill always in with the facts ...awesome, as always!

Another user and rec for BradPenn. My SC was tracked extensively, and it ran strong and revved to redline with abandon the entire time (and didn't even leak!). This for 20 years, fwiw. For anyone considering which oil, skip the marketing and go with those who know their stuff and have no bias outside of keeping their aircooled beasts healthy! There is simply far too much I don't know, so I trust those who do.

I use it, but only for ornamental purposes. And it lasts forever. When used this way, you don't need to change it every year!
