Default Porsche Short Shifter on '89 G50 - Is It Worth It?

I have a '89 G50 Coupe. Considering getting the short shift kit (which from research here seems to be available from Porsche) to shorten up the throw. On my list of incremental tweaks and trying to decide if I should pursue it.

Those that have done the kit after the fact (i.e. did not come with it from the factory and installed it afterwards) have any feedback or notice a difference? Any drawbacks?

It was a factory option, and did shorten the throw, however the g50 shifter was good as is, so I would not spend money on it. If the car were newer and you were hotrodding it through the mountains and using it for everyday transport, maybe then.

I had one from the factory in my 87 and 88 and really liked them.

I wouldn't bother either. my former car had the 'shorter shift lever' which was also an option. Put new bushings in the coupler (or use a Wevo) and in the shift mechanism and these things feel really nice.

Thanks. I checked out Wevo here and on Pelican. Like the classic and reuse of the boot so you blend in for the OEM look. While the other style is great looking, unless I go hotrod, it doesn't fit my style.

I had an 89 carrera and swapped the stock shifter for the wevo classic, drove it for a few months and decided although the throw was a little longer on the stock shifter it actually felt better to drive. With the G50 the stock shifter just glides into the right spot with little effort, the Wevo had shorter throws that took more effort to shift. If for nothing else it goes in super easy and I was able to re-sell it on the Pelican forum for about 85% of what I paid for it so the experiment had limited downside. Jason
