Default Key Replacement

Well, I was on my cars yesterday and misplaced my 87 911 key. At least I have a backup key. Is a simple route just to purchase a blank one and take my backup and the new blank to a hardware store or am I missing anything?
Also, I saw what looks like an OEM version and similar but does not state OEM on eBay. Does it matter witch one?

OEM $68.99

Non-OEM $54.85

Yes. Just get a blank and key head. They sell them separate or as a pair. It’s best to cut these with the blank not in the head. It just snaps in and locks with a little spring.

I use a locksmith to cut them from the best original i have as they seem to take a little more care to get it right and the blanks are not cheap at about 20 each.

Default Key Found plus bonus

Thanks for the reply. Good to know. I am sure the story will not be a good to lose a key to a modern car. Well, I found the key! As a bonus a found a set of brand new rear pads for my GT3 ($300+). So, I have the key and a new set of pads. So, I got very lucky.
