Default Replacing original “sport” shocks on an ‘87 coupe...

I know everyone raves about the Bilsteins but I’m committed to keeping my newly acquired ‘87 Coupe as stock as possible, so I plan to stick with the OEM Boges. It has 73K miles and the shocks are now 32 years old so a refresh might be in order. They are the factory “sport shocks”, so does anyone know what the part number is for the Boge replacement? Are there two diff versions of Boge shock, one regular and one sport? I can’t find any info about this online.

Thanks in advance.

The front Boge shock for the stock Carrera is 911-341-913-06. The front shock for the M491 car (which I suspect MIGHT be equivalent to a "sport" shock) is 911-341-913-05. The -06 strut insert shows on Pelican that they will have to order it from Porsche for $288 per strut. The -05 strut insert shows supercession to 911-341-913-10 and also must be ordered from Porsche for $338 per strut.

Rear Boge shock is 911-333-051-06 shows supersession to 911-333-051-17 (special order from Porsche at $284 per shock) and the M474 model stipulates 911-333-051-07, now superseded to 911-333-051-18, also orderable from Porsche at $317.25 per shock. There is no M491 Boge replacement at the rear, only Bilsteins are specified for the M491 car.

Also, note that just because Pelican reflects that it must be ordered from Porsche, that DOES NOT mean they can get those parts. You will encounter many NLA situatons for parts for your '87.

You might want to visit the Porsche.com classic section and download the current copy of PET for your car. I've found this data to be incredibly helpful.

Finally, if you do move to Bilsteins, make sure you know what kind of strut you have. There are definitive markings on the Boge strut that identify it as such. You want to ensure that if you go to Bilstein, that you buy the Bilstein insert FOR THE BOGE STRUT.

Good luck.

If you are that determined to stay original, then maybe your best bet is to have your existing shocks rebuilt. I know Bilstein's can be rebuilt, but not sure about Boge. No affiliation, but maybe check with Performance Shock in Sonoma, CA.

Also, just because it's original, doesn't mean it is still the best choice. You could get custom-valved Bilstein's to match your torsion bars for a lot less than those prices quoted above. Keep the originals in case someday they are important to someone.
