Default ‘87 G50 Carrera. Carfax only goes back to ‘91.

Is that strange? I’ve never purchased such an old car so don’t know how far back Carfax goes!

thanks in advance.

Doesn't matter. The PPI and leakdown are far far more important.

Yup. Carfax can be a decent reference, but I've seen plenty of cars with accidents or mileage discrepancies that have a clear bill of health via Carfax. These are old cars and a proper PPI with leak down/paint meter will tell you what you need to know.

Friend owner body shop and NEVER reported info to CARFAX.
His attitude was that all cars were like new when he was done with them.

Are body shops required to report such things? I thought Carfax pulled from insurance, DMV records, etc.

Carfax records are pretty good but not all shops reported especially true in the 1990s.

Remember 1987 was a long time ago and Al Gore's Internet was just getting going early 1990s.

Not unusual at all.

Carfax =Insurance, not body shop.

Paint meter and a good PPI is the best you can do. I'll take a bad engine over a bad chassis/body every day of the week. Engines are relatively cheap compared to serious bodywork.
