Default What is this for? ('86 911)

Hi All,

While topping up the oil today, for the first time I noticed this 'opening' (circled in green in the attached image). Can someone please tell what this is for? And should there be some kind of cap/cover over it?

That is the top of the bumper support bar. If you look from the underside you should see it coming down and attaching to the inside of the bumper. The other end is closed off. If fluid where to go in there it might not drain. Mine did not have any caps on them.
