Tested the driving lights. Holy crap are they bright lol.

if the driving lights were really bright, there would be burn marks on the house wall


... or no wall at all

Spyerx, Great job with the car and now that you have it all sorted....you can sell it to me ...lol
The car looks great! Did you figure out the cloth slipping issue? Keep us updated and keep posting pictures!

yes. Clutch has life left it was an adjustment. But there is more to it.

This is interesting. The guys working on my car. Well one of them has like 50 years wrenching on Porsche’s. He had a great time driving this one getting it setup. So. My car is a 71. He’s under the car with the other tech. He’s looking at clutch. He says ok 77 2.7. Trans is a 911 so from 71 trans is original to car. Trans is right. When he goes to adjust it, he’s like wtf? These cars should have a pull clutch. Mine has a push. And it has the flange etc for a pull. He had no idea why they’d have put a push clutch in it.

to,adjust he had to bend some of the bushing holding cable against trans to allow more movement.

I went back to the restore pictures and all the receipts and old receipts back to 79. When they did the restore, they used the old clutch since it’s fine. It looks fine inside bell housing. I have pics of that.

So i go back to the old receipts and find a clutch job from many years ago but it doesn’t specify any parts or anything. So one of those old car mysteries.

Anyway, clutch is fine. When it needs to be replaced I’ll change it to a higher torque setup to handle the torque better of the 2.7 motor.

if any of you experts have any idea what I’m talking about chime in. I’m just not very familiar with these older cars.

Car seems dry now too. Replace valve cover, timing box cover, and sump plate gaskets. It’s a little sleepy but not dripping (knock on wood). Shop said it’s driest car of the last 25 they’ve had in there. And let’s just say there are some very special cars in and passing through this shop.

Well tang decided to mess with the wife and i tonight. Beautiful night so we take a cruise down coast highway to san Clemente. Crazy busy out. First really warm weekend since like October (not that it’s ever that cold but dude it didn’t even get over 70 once in February!)

well park car. Eat dinner. Go out to start. Click click.
Dammit! Brand new batteries. Newer ignition switch.
kept trying but starter won’t go
Called tow just in case, tow driver helped push start and we made it home fine
got in garage. Turned it over and it started once. Then click click.
I suppose the started is jammed up.
Oh well excuse to get dirty. At least starters are cheap.
Will check ground strap too and for good measure whack it with a rubber mallet.

The joys of owning a classic car!!! You must have done something to **** it off... lol

Has the car been sitting on a battery tender? I would check the battery terminals if they are loose. It’s probably the starter but I would check all of the wires like the alternator wires, ground wires and possibly having the battery tested. That can be done for free at any Battery Plus store or Autozone. About 12 years ago I purchased a brand new battery that had a bad cell in it. It caused all kinds of starting issues and check engine lights.

Since this just started after you installed the driving lights is is it possible that something is drawing power? Double check all of the wires to the power supply (fuse box)

This sounds like a simple fix but gets annoying when you get stranded on the road.

be sure that round 5 pin connector under the dash is tight, not corroded, etc.

a voltage meter that fits in the cig. socket might be in your future too - I had a very odd charging problem that I will not bore you with...

Batteries are good. I have one of those i keep in my 89 carrera. Good idea to check that out. But i suspect charging is ok as after i bump started it last night i drove 40+ miles home.

checked voltage to rear engine plug good and stays strong on “click”
i don’t feel like crawling under car. I jacked the car up but i just hate crawling under cars so i did reach in and whacked it with a nylon dead blow hammer a few times but nada.

i get a very strong click so i suspect it’s the starter solenoid is jammed up or dried up. The click I’m getting is not froma small Bosch relay.

i did poke in there and looked and looked at restore pics. It’s a big old starter possibly original. The parts list didnt state they replaced it

I think ill put the larger one from the 73 and later. I suspect it fits? They are interchangeable if I’m reading right from pelican.

Funny. Looking at the restore pics. When they pulled the motor it had a relay wired on back of starter. I believe this is a mod that is done for weak yellow position 50 connections to help get max power to the solenoid. Now. Not sure that relay is still there or not.

Also looking at service around 2014 car would not start. It would turn over. Turned out to be corrosion on the engine harness plug causing a voltage drop to the cdi box under cranking. They cleaned re crimped and put protective grease on the plugs. I checked them and they are all clean and tight.

I will poke behind the dash and the round connector i assume you mean the one on back of the ignition switch.

that plug that was the easy problem for me was the one that mounts to the firewall

big click sounds like solenoid - do you have a history on it?

Ya that one and the one on the side of the rear fuse block are really clean

it looks just like this. But cleaned up.

I suspect its original or old

If you need a starter refurb, the guys at Fort Worth Starter and Generator do beautiful work. They do refurbs for a local Porsche shop that sells their work online.....and very reasonable pricing.

has to be a place in SoCal that specializes in German elec.s

or save a few lbs. with a gear reduction starter

you will enjoy yoga position #666 "reaching around fat dragon" to get it out - not hard for those under 60
