G body Battery rec
I need a new battery for my 88. Seems like battery technology's kinda stalled, but What is the newest and best technology for a 3.2 that will fit in the stock battery tray without mods and be lightest/best bang for buck? Assuming size 48, but open to suggestions. Hoping sub 40lbs.. Btw, this is the old one, anyone know the model, or size? Can you tell battery age based on this date code? Thanks all!!

Go to autozone. Grab an h6 agm platinum. Less likely to leak. Plenty of power. I have these in 3 cars. Made in Germany. The one in my 89 is 4 years old now. I do use a ctek tender.

Grabbed a Champion Group 48/H6 AGM from Pep Boys. 44lb battery, but reliable and should last another decade. Dropped it in Sunday, crazy how quick she fires up when that power hits the starter now!

I went through two Optima batteries in as many years. Had to replace one in the US while on my way to Hershey one year, and it failed within 6 months. Problem was, nobody in Canada would honour the warranty. Never again! Thoroughly disappointed in these AGM batteries. I now have a lead acid Motomaster (Canadian Tire) battery in the car which has lasted 3 years so far.

I am trying to swap out battery on my '87 and can't due to this black structure immediately adjacent to the huge battery; it is so close to the battery that I don't have any room to maneuver the battery out of its tray.
Does anyone know what this is and have any suggestions other than to remove it and then proceed with the battery change? I don't really want to start something without knowing what I'm getting into.
Thanks for any info.
