I try to avoid using Porsche and Markets in the same sentence, but this is not a trivial matter. I'm yet to see anybody generally pleased with the 992.
A lot of people waited to see what the 992 would be like before getting into a Porsche, and I am afraid it did disappoint!

Given the forgiving economy and the abundance we saw on Cyber Monday, I feel that people will turn to the 991's and a general spill effect will be seen trickling down all the way to the SC's.

Does this make sense to you, ladies and gents?! Or will Porsche continue to show growth in 911 sales regardless? Is this the time people started to reconsider the 996? Will it be nearly impossible to find a decent 964 for decent money??

personally I think they are totally unrelated ... except for maybe a few incidents of enthusiasts bemoaning an air cooled. I think they are completely different consumers outside of the odd enthusiast.

Those unhappy with the 992 I think will turn to Audi R8s Mercedes and maybe even GTRs long before they turn to a 40 year old air cooled noise maker.
Just my opinion though

I have to agree with Iceman. I think the 992 is really only going to affect the 991 market. If you are in the market for a 992 then you are in the market for something in that price range and something relatively new. I think ppl that are looking for air cooled car are comparing other air cooled cars against each other.

I also think this is too far removed to affect air-cooled prices but for those who want a modern Porsche, the 997.2 / 991.1 (or pre 3.0 turbo) market may get a boost.

Based on what I've seen over the past 44 years, these are two completely different markets and the folks who buy 997, 991 and now the 992 cars, the air-cooled cars do not appeal to them on a multitude of fronts.

Zero effect on the air-cooled market, IMHO.

I agree. There is no relationship between prices in the water-cooled world and the air-cooled world. Different markets.

Agreed. The guy I bought my '72 from wasn't impressed by the old car and was anxious to buy himself a 997 that had all of the creature comforts. Some crossover but mostly different crowds.

Very low correlation between the two. The ownership crossover is so low as to be insignificant.

I will certainly spend my money on early aircooled cars.

My initial thought was zero correlation..... but I think there's a chance that a bad 992 would be more likely to have a long term correlation to damaging the brand. If the 992.2 is a bomb and then the next..... and so on, I would be afraid that it could hurt the vintage cars. I doubt porsche will continue to make disappointing cars though. After the 996 came arguably one of the best 911 platforms, so even if all the 992s are uninteresting the 9XX should be an improvement. long term though, we will probably see hybrids creep in, the manual transmission fade out, and much of the charm of driving disappear. Personally I can't see myself in anything newer than a 997, not because of budget, but because of lack of interest.

mostly agree, the 992 is not a car for me (so what they lose an old guy, Porsche have done their market research and produced this car, hopefully they have a good marketing research firm), the car looks bloated, I see Panamera in it. Are Porsche moving away from their mantra? "Giant killer" Oh well, we hope they sell boatloads. Likely this will lift the 991, 997 market but won't touch the air cooled market unless there are a few folks out there getting into a water cooled/air cooled mind set decision process, then if they do their homework and study the complete 911 range and if they land air cooled they'll do a 993, the last of the breed.
