Magnus Walker engine surface finish. Powder coat?
Hi folks. What do you think about this look on the surface of the engine case? Is not soda blasted. Looks like painted or coated. What do you think what can be is ?

Looks nice but any leak and the whole thing is pointless
But on a functional note any engine in the back of a car is looking to lose heat any way it can. Especially our air cooled cars. The case itself is a massive heatsink. Not sure i would cover it with anything that could insulate it.

Paint and specialized coating are not even close to being the same. There are coating specifically for heat transfer and heat resistance. Ceramic coatings have been protecting headers for 30+ years.
So as r911 has stated a thin coating protecting metals will have almost zero effect.

Yes, except ceramic coatings on headers are meant to keep heat IN. These coatings protect the components around the headers from heat saturation, and send as much heat as possible out the exhaust tips. They also protect the outer surface of the headers from corrosion.

Correct.... as I stated there are coating for various heat related issues. Header coating protects heat being transferred. There are also coatings designed to dissipate heat and resist heat.

Yes, there are coatings that inhibit heat transfer and coatings that promote it.
But, no matter what, a thin coating will be negligible in effect on heat transfer from the valve covers, engine cases etc. because other modes of heat transfer will be orders of magnitude more important.

Is it possible they just used an aluminum brightener? Acid based cleaning solution. The case would have to have been in excellent condition for it to look that good though.

Seen this effect many times before. Simple to do: soda blast all engine parts, assemble engine, mask, hit it with silver spray bomb. I am not joking, last year I took possession of just such a used motor. Looked great. That entire effect was most likely achieved with a $5 spray can.
Lots of times it will be VHT or some sort of header paint. As such will last a long time, and IMHO has no negative effects on heat.
