Strange welded beam in trunk
Hi
I was checking out a 1979 930 turbo and found this in the right inner wall of the trunk. The welds looks awful. Anyone that can shed a light on why it might be there? Is this just an ugly way of fixing a damage or does it have any other purpose? https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f83f728edc.jpg |
Try the turbo forum. May be specific to that car for rigidity ?

That is a factory installed brace for US spec 930's

Phil What do you think about the welds? Are they done in the factory or have someone repaired the car after? Btw, the welds are even worse on the underside... |
That is the way they all look, factory welds for sure- here are same welds in a 79 I used to own.

Ok, great to know! Thanks!

Those look like stick welds using a whipping technique. Not the prettiest but are OK for what they are.
Today that would be a MIG wire weld and look much prettier. |
