911 SC's time has come according to Jerry

Really? Didn't realized it, as when looking around seems to me range is within 17-25k depends on condition and mileage. I thought coupe and targa are the desirable ones. I drove it 2-3 times already and it does run like under 60k car with no leak at all.

It's lighter than a G50 carrera. I have an SC and a G50, and can say the SC has its own flavor. There will always be someone who says the older cars are more interesting or more raw. Personally, I don't understand the comments that say the 75-77 should become valuable first, LOL. As far as I'm concerned you can't line the bottom of the ocean fast enough with 2.7 carrereas. To each their own.

It could have been optioned with a turbo tail at the time but it looks out of proportion and is designed for the 930 wide body rear hips.
Many put the carrera tail on it which was designed for that body style and is a nice upgrade along with the front dam
You could have added a weissach tail that came with that special edition but i think they are rare and quite frankly unattractive

I could be wrong, but it sounds like there are some 80's SC that has whale tail stock? Example: Weissach 1980 SC edition? Looking at online pics there are a good number of whale tail SCs and I don't think they look bad at all. Maybe I'm not getting why people not like them. I heard it's because it's not widebody, but maybe I don't notice it too much.

Yes the whale tail can be stock . Just not standard. I meant it comes standard with no tail.
Except for weisech edition which i mentioned.
What looks right or doesn't is up to each of us to decide. Get what you like and enjoy it
I think the turbo tail on the back of that white SC looks overdone as the car isn't big enough at the back. Notice he avoided shooting the pic directly from the back ?
Personal taste thing though.

Model Year 1980 911SC
Hopefully from your research, you do realize the first Model Year (MY) of the 911SC, and 911s in general, that a cabriolet or convertible body style was offered by Porsche was MY 1983. Before and after MY 1983, some conversions of the 911 Targa body style to an aftermarket 911 convertible were done by some independent shops. If the car you are looking at is truly a MY 1980, it is in all probability an aftermarket conversion, If the present owner has a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for the car, and it is a verified MY 1980, the car probably started out in its life as a Targa, which the COA would also show.
The whale tail on the white 911SC shown in your post (#27) is an early Turbo style, with the second small grill opening on the flat of the tail behind the normal grill. That particular tail was not a “standard” offered option on the MY 1980 cars, but the factory would install non-standard options, if the buyer had connections and was willing to pay. My educated guess is that the early Turbo tail on the white 911SC convertible in post #27 is an aftermarket installation. There are some good threads as to whale tail types and how to identify a particular tail on Rennlist, so a little more research will help you identify what is mounted on the 1980 911SC. As an aside, and IMHO that tail looks fine on that car. Keep the faith, Type 2

LOL. Before I got my 78 SC, I had seat time in many Carreras with and without the G50, a couple T's, and a 76 and 77 S. When I drove my 78' every box (for me) got checked off. I found my SC to feel lighter and more peppy, but with a very vintage feel. AND it was said to be bulletproof. I can understand the appeal, from a cosmetic standpoint, for the mid's, that narrow body has many fans, but the issues associated with such cars made me shy away. I think the SC falls right into the sweetest of spots, which to me is where vintage, modern and practicality meet.

Like you I really hope to find a sunroof delete coupe in a "rare" color like Cashmere.

If I remember correctly, your SC is a sunroof delete coupe. I fell in love with the 911 as a brand new driver in '81, the impact bumper SC era. It IS what I will purchase when I pull the trigger on an air cooled. My issue is that it seems Porsche made thousands of SC's and about three that weren't Guards Red (I have an aversion to red cars).

Good memory! The hunt is half the fun. Keep at it because it will be worth it when you get what you are looking for, though the opportunity cost may be lower prices.
