On my 911s -74 project I finally got the engine in and it started right up. Now I discovered that I can not shift to second and fourth gear. That is - its go right to reverse. Occasionally I find the second gear, but that's rarely. Gear 1, 3 and 5 is ok.

Any idea ?

its likely your adjustment of your coupler. it usually has to be re-adjusted when the engine and transmission are remounted in the car. Google " 911 shift coupler adjustment" and I'm sure lots will come up. BTW your transmission is never " gone" unless someone physically unbolts it from the your engine and runs off with it. Everything can be fixed.
I think you just require an adjustment though, and it is a VERY finicky adjustment to get perfect so have some patience.
