Amelia Island Auction Results
Amelia Island is always a good Barometer for the Aircooled Porsche market, so we came to observe auction results (and not because of the lovely weather wink wink). First day was Bonhams, and our preliminary take was that Collectible grade cars are strong but driver quality ones soft. Case in point:
1970 911S 2.2. $172K before fees is near 2015 peak I believe.

Thanks for the info! I think the "ouch" on the '75 is attributed to failing engine bolts and or valve covers warping. Can't recall, but I know that gen had specific engine issues, which keep them down.

My Pleasure! It was not exactly hardship to spend a weekend in FL
I think you're right; we also wonder why people will take cars at this price level to a High End auction.

I wouldn't consider Amelia A barometer. People are out of their minds and some cars make sense and others do not. BTW those prices are not including the 10% which you have to add.
There was also another 94 turbo that barely broke $200k at gooding I suspect both cars have some form of history and paintwork. I can point out all sorts of issues with them although still nice examples are far from perfect. I know of a couple that recently brought stronger money privately but were far nicer examples. Heck a Hudson brought $80k. It is all about having two people wanting and egos running amuck.
This is the other 3.6T at Gooding
You can't forget cars like this 1992 turboS bringing $1,760,000
The one I like the best was the 94 964 RSA with 1600 miles modified interior, Upgraded Big red brakes, Aftermarket Cup I wheels and who knows what else for $190k.

$190k for a '94, sure, maybe overpriced by 0.1M, but I can see that.
Thanks.

I expect the car to bring closer to $2mm but selling price is far from shabby.
BTW Seinfelds 94 turbo S flachbau with miles and is more a cosmetic and engine upgrade sold for $1.1mm so rarity is a huge factor when buying a car like this.

Correct actual number were 86 produced making these a unicorn to some degree and this being uniquely spec'd and delivery miles makes it I guess the unicorns' unicorn.

Most decent 94's will sell for well into the $200's and some over $300k. The 92 turbo S was a ROW car only and there were roughly 80 made. Increased HP, light weight materials used for significant weight savings. Shall we say the RS of turbos. It is the 964 turbo to own and I don't say that lightly being a 94 T owner. This example has basically delivery miles and has very unique options. It is part of a series of 5 cars ordered and owned by Michael Mak initially. They all wore the same purple painted speedline wheels, Gold calipers, All had a very garish interior this is the most sedate red as the others were covered in lipstick red leather everywhere. Of the 5 cars three were 92 turbo S lightweights and 2 were 3.8RSR's All have delivery miles and are only for the serious collector who will probably never drive them. Sadly they need to be driven but have lasted this long without and driving them which is a debatable subject.
