Value Of '71T
The good:
Single family owned since new, 5-Speed, 5 Fuchs, Tinted glass all around, Receipts from new. Lots of service work over the years, rebuilt engine some 60K (or more) miles ago along with the trans receiving new 1st & 2nd and syncros. Lots of timing chain issues over the years and another poster suggested it was retrofitted with Carrera timing covers (Tensioner up-grade kit L & R in 1993). Guess that is good. BTW, carbs changed out to Webers in 1998. The bad: Squirrel family living in the bonnet for quite some time and not able to determine if wiring is toast, battery boxes show corrosion and can't see around the gas tank structure due to all the bedding and, ah, poop....seeds, etc. Known front/rear damage, repaint in the 80's after the rear ender, receipts showing rust mitigation there after. Interior is pretty tired with seats no longer supporting any weight, holes in seat cushion (driver) carpet worn to the metal (drivers side) rear looks ok, dash looks ok. Door cards OK with pockets a bit on the loose side. Radio is not OE. Driven regularly till about 2003, then just sparingly. 2013 received a tune, fuel system flush, brakes, new MC, oil-filter, then put into a garage with a really wet floor, turned off the lights and was pretty much forgotten. E-brakes frozen, guess clutch is stuck to PP and flywheel, uncertain of condition of the calipers/rotors. You need to have it appraised on-site to determine if there is any structural rust as well as assess the rest of the car. Thats the only way to determine fair market value for the widow. |
Without even seeing the car in person you could sell it for 50K no problems. More if there is less damage than we think.

Some strong positives, several strong negatives, and plenty of unknowns, some potentially major. This car could be a money-pit. $50K seems far off the mark. |
Catch the decal on the rear window. The owner was a SR 71 driver ..... which of course has nothing to do with the condition of the vehicle but cool

complete rusty projects are approx 25k. Drivers are approx 50-60k and excellent original or restored cars are approx 100k plus or minus..
This car is basically a project. You would be into a restoration once you started working on it. Given the accident history, soft market and current condition i would say 25k low, 35k high. Be prepaid to spend. A shop can spend a month doing disassembly and media blasting. Metal shop can spend 3 months on body. Painter will take a month and final assembly will be another month. Basically, 6 months if somebody was on it everyday. 40 hours a week. Shop rate. $$ All the items that need rebuild or replacment add up quickly. It is a car worth saving and would be nice when completed. You just need a proper budget to restore this car. You would want $100k in your jeans. |
the car is in W. Wash. so that will help sales
she may be able to find someone who wants a good driver, even w/o 100k in their jeans (or bike shorts) |
