So.... the cupholder arrived. Am I right in thinking it attaches to the seat runner? If so, it's far too close to the floor and stops me putting my seat forward enough, am I missing something??

I attached mine to the passenger seat rail closest to the center console. The screw on the cup holder screws into the hex bolt holding the seat in the rail. The fit is not snug, but enough to hold a cup.
I didn't test how much this prevents the passenger seat from moving forward. I keep the passenger seat pushed back all the way since I don't use the rear seats.

Yessir, it attaches to the seat rail, as pictured up above^^^
It is, IMHO, the best solution for our cars for the reason that it is unobtrusive yet easy to reach from the driver's seat. No, it isn't perfect, but the absolute best solution I've seen to date for my money. And yes, it does prevent you from putting the seat forward to some extent. Now this is a fairly rare occurrence for me since I rarely ever have anyone ride in the back, so it's not big deal. But when I do need to put a passenger in the back and move this seat forward, unscrew and remove the cupholder!!! Otherwise, you risk bending the setscrew if it is still mounted on the rail, and when you move that seat forward, it tweaks the screw ...ask me how I know. It's a small price to pay for an otherwise excellent, elegant solution.
