Unusual question about 911S
I'm here hoping to get some help. My husbands' birthday is coming up, and I'm wanting to purchase him a 911S. I have about $50,000-$65,000 to spend. I drive a 2018 Macon S and love it!
Here is my dilemma... I found a 2005 911S, but I think their asking price is too high. It was just traded in, the body looked rough, not banged up, but just a dirty car (with a few scratches) as if it hadn't been washed in weeks. There has been 5 owners. The sales fellow has told me that he has had calls from all over the US about this 2005 911S. I drove by this afternoon, and it's in line where it goes to be inspected by the dealers' mechanics I assume, and it had some strange writing on the window. I had my brother come with me and take a picture of the window. He is a corvette fanatic and knows nothing about Porsches. I've attached a picture of the window. Can someone try to help tell me what the writing means?
My husband used to drive a 930 factory slope in the 80's, and I think he is going through a midlife crisis, so I'm trying to surprise him with a 911S that I can afford. A 930 I can't do, but maybe this can be something to brighten his life up a little.

You should post in the 997 section, here we discuss the old classic 911s and most of us don't know much about newer cars.

First, i'm sure I won't be the only one to tell you that your ideas for gift giving are awesome.
Second, given your budget, you could probably get a 2015 911 carrera. Maybe a 2013-14S model. 1999 through 2008 Porsche 911s should be a lot cheaper, but have a troublesome and possibly deadly (to the car!) mechanical issue with their engines intermediate shaft.
I have no idea what the writing on the window means

that looks like auction assessment script. ive seen it before . Auction houses have there own style for quickly describing the condition of a vehicle internally. the public usually cant decipher it.

2005 Carrera S, 78,508 miles, B- condition and $49,981 is estimated retail price. The rest of the writing is their "secret code" and you need a decoder ring to figure it out.

Lol. Maybe they think it’s air cooled. 😉

Thank you all! I really appreciate the help. I'll pass on that Porsche and look for 2009 plus models. He wants an S and that I can do. I'm not certain with a $60,000 budget that I can do a Turbo which he would probably flip over.

60k will buy you not just a 996 turbo but a very very nice one, low mileage, well taken care of.
Come take a look at the 996 turbo section, we'll be glad to help.

We are just guessing of course but I would say if that car did come from auction it has the chance of having bore scoring anyway. I know several 996 engines that have been replaced for this all C4S cars strangely enough .
This is the lesser known issue that lies under the IMS issues but is just as miserable and harder to spot for the uneducated.

First off.... what a great wife and an outstanding gift idea. But, buying a used Porsche as a gift for a Porsche guy is so hard. There are so many options, models and mods out there and everyone has their own personal taste. You could easily get him a nice Porsche that doesn't meet his expectations. I would recommend giving him the gift of the budget and shop with him. Best of luck... he is one lucky man.
