Default help with a UK 1977 turbo

i am in need of a little help with a 1977 model by VIN 911 turbo.
i am in the UK and the car is a RHD UK spec car.
now being honest i am more a 928 guy and i enjoy restoring them, https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-a-pos-se.html

my day job is a mechanic and have now been tasked with rebuilding this 77 turbo.

it was stripped more than 2 years ago by a tec who does not work for us anymore and another tec who also does not work for us half put it back together.

so i am now trying to finishing it off, as my boss said " you know porsche's you rebuilt yours" i tried to explain that a front engine V8 that i stripped myself is not the same as a half built 911 with a rear engine flat 6 and a lot of boxes of parts, but like most bosses they only hear what they want to hear....

so my questions to you 911 guru's

1, what does the 2 pin connector, pictured below, plug into?

2, should the relay next to it be red? and what does it do?

3, the fuel tank is held down by 3 mounts, 911 201 311 00 according to porsche's PET, but when they came they look nothing like the picture on PET and are just to big to fit.
do i have a wrong tank or is there another part number i should use?

4, where does the pipe go that fits in the top of the air box -pictured go? and does anybody have the part number?

5, when the ignition is turned on should both fuel pumps run to build up pressure before the engine is cranked over?
as the only way i can get the fuel pumps to run is by grounding the thick wire in the 2 pin connector behind the fuse box next to the fuel tank -pictured.
when this wire is put to ground the pumps work and the engine starts

i know about L jetronic fuel injection but little about the K type.

please be gentle with me for asking questions i guess have been asked my times before.

cheers
Phil

I'd post your questions on this pelican forum - http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-9...harging-forum/

1, what does the 2 pin connector, pictured below, plug into? Plugs into the rear defroster see pic

2, should the relay next to it be red? yesand what does it do? Over-booster sensor rely

Vent hose from scavenge tank to air filter housing

5, when the ignition is turned on should both fuel pumps run to build up pressure before the engine is cranked over? No,
pumps are wired to run only when engine is on. You can hear the pumps run as you turn the ignition key just prior to the starter engaging

as the only way i can get the fuel pumps to run is by grounding the thick wire in the 2 pin connector behind the fuse box next to the fuel tank -pictured.
when this wire is put to ground the pumps work and the engine starts
[COLOR="Red"]If you pull the green connector from the back of the fuel meter, the pumps will run continually when tohe key is turned to the "on" position /COLOR]

i know about L jetronic fuel injection but little about the K type.

many thanks for the information Stevie, i now have the old girl running ok.
there was a sensor missing from the timing cover-someone had just put a blanking plug in it- i fitted a second hand sensor and all seems ok.

i don't suppose you have a part number for the red relay?

and just another quick question, did all 930's of this age have air injection, or was it dependant on the market it was going into?

cheers

Relay part # 911-615-108-01

I can't be entirely sure ROW engines came with the air injection system. All US cars did to meet tightening restrictions

am still working on the old girl and just have a few more quick questions

1) anybody got a picture/part number for the fuel tank clamp -on the passerger side for you guys?

2) in need of a picture of the " change over switch" for the electric mirrors just to confirm if the car came with them from the factory

3) should the 2 missing relays be red and the other relays be black?

4) anybody got a wiring diagram for the front fog lamps for a 77?

cheers
Phil
