Help- frozen Allen screw, was leg room
RE: 88 Carrera Coupe
Well, a couple warnings came true.when taking out the six Allen screws holding the passenger seat track to the mount. Five of the screws came loose with a bit of force on them. Wouldn't you know it, the sixth will not break loose. The car is in pristine condition, and no sign of rust anywhere. Nevertheless I soaked the area with penetrating licquid over night. Still stuck. Took a butane mini torch and heated the mount, thinking maybe I could warm it a bit and let it expand around the screw. Got it fairly warm, and still no luck.
The head is not striped "yet" but much more of this and it will strip.
Anything else to try before I resort to drilling the head off?
Fortunately, the one screw is a rear one on the back, and I can see it and get to it. Can't see any reason to try cutting a screwdriver slot as I am sure I am putting more torque on it with the Allen wrench than I ever could with a screwdriver.
Try pounding on it with a nail set? I can not get a hammar head to it.
I'm trying to get the seat out before my Knee surgery on Thursday. That will put a definite cramp on my doing this work for a while.
OK you pros, what now?
Thanks,
Hank

Hank,
You are smart not to force and risking stripping the bolt
Long shot: Try tightening it 1/8 of a turn and then loosen
Sure shot: Use an impact driver on the allen socket (with extension to clear the seat if need be). This will work even in the event you strip part of the allen fastener....
This is must tool to have... it delivers cam action impact when struck with a hammer for loosening or tightening bolts fasteners
Let me know if this works

Jascha,
I had not considered tightening it, and doubt it will budge. I have a hand held impact tool, but the only bits for it are screwdriver. I will see what it would take to fit an Allen wrench shape to it. I know the impact works great, but will it work when at an angle? I can not get a straignt shot at the screw.

What kind of penetrating oil are you using? WD40 wont work. PB Blaster is the best thing I've found. You can get it ar Pep Boys for about $3. Leave it over night and tap the screw if you can. This stuff stinks, but it really works. If the screw wont come out after that you'll probably need more extreme measures. Good luck

I used Licquid Wrench. I know it is for rust, but that is all I had on hand. No Pep Boys around here, but maybe Advance or Auto Zone have it.
Thanks

Get an extension on it ... if you can.
The impulse torque will get it going (even at an angle)
