BBS LM - reverse mounting the centers
I've had this set of 8 & 11 x 18" BBS LM's for a while - purchased with the mindset to polish / clear the lips, paint the centers a darker gray & reverse mount them to the barrels for a more aggressive offset and IMO, a much nicer look.
Today was the first quiet Sunday morning (or any morning, for that matter) in a while that I've had a spare couple of hours, so I started the process. I took some photos to highlight the difference in appearance achieved by mounting the faces on the inside of the barrel lip.
I'll keep the thread updated as more progress is made. Tomorrow they will be picked up by Patrick, the wheel polisher, who polishes all of my wheels - he has a great machine that spins the wheel like a potter's wheel, enabling him to sand & polish the lips evenly and effectively. Even greater is is "magic polishing potion"; he tells me that he'll take the recipe to the grave. Once I was talking to him for a few minutes & I noticed he was rubbing the bottom of a coke can with a rag; after I asked why he held the bottom up & I could see my face in it...
Fronts before
Fronts - right side is the front mount & left side shows the reverse mounted center with 3 bolts to secure it in place for polishing.
Rears - right side is front mount & left side reverse
All 4 after rear mounting the faces.

Just the thread I have been looking for. Those are going to look great when finished.
I really wanted to reverse mount my faces but wondered if the offset would be too aggressive...aka "rubbing". Are you going to mount these Nick?
What is your opinion on the offset and rubbing...I think it was over 1/4 inch?

If the front's were 8.5" instead of 8", I'd probably have an issue but these should sit nice & flush with the fender. The rears are currently ET55, so the 12/15mm offset reduction will allow me to mount them without spacers on the WB.
FoudeS completed a similar project (although 19") for his gorgeous C4S:

This is a great idea! Please measure the offset once finished (esp the rears). Should give 40 ish rear offset?
My rears don't have tires on them right now so I could do this too. Do you need new hardware or can you reuse the old bolts/nuts. ? what torque.
Thanx!

The question regarding using new hardware is a good one. I will re-use the existing because the wheels are in near new condition & this is the first time they have been apart. I'd definitely use new if I had any doubt about the condition. Some may disagree, though I've never had an issue.
Regarding torque, I use around 15-17lbs for the BBS 2 piece wheels.

Patrick the Polisher delivered the finished barrels yesterday - another perfect but finicky job... Nice to have him in the area!
Here's how they look with stock BBS paint color on the centers - next step is to media blast them & repaint with a darker gray.

Wow, another great and amazing thread to follow. My 993TT mounted a BBS LM set, it's a great idea to reduce the rear ET (I use a 23mm spacer on rear with a right camber). Well done Nurburger.
