Thoughts on pricing 2003 to sell.
Hi.
A good friend wants to sell his 2003 996 Coupe.
Artic Silver, gray interior.
Very few options (heated seats); standard 17 inch wheels/tires
He is the original owner, garaged and ding free. Reasonably maintained. No leaks.
And it has only 31,000 miles.
What do you think is a fair private party pricing to sell? Located in NJ.
Thanks.
Mark

Or for another data point visit www.kbb.com or www.nade.com and fill in the blanks and see what the price is.
Your friend is entitled to pick the higher price (or any price of course) but he needs to be able to make a case for the price.
Arctic silver and black leather interior: Classic colors and very popular and helps resale.
Do not apologize for 'few options'. Instead stress the car is free of the more complex and trouble-prone and expensive to fix options.
17" wheels/tires means a quieter ride. Less expensive to replace tires.
Low miles.
Be sure your friend can produce paper work that shows the miles are 'real' and what servicing exactly the car has had and when.
Also, your friend might consider having any services that are due or close to it done. He can then say the car is ready to buy and the new owner can expect to drive the car 15K or more miles before the car needs any scheduled serviced.
For some owners 15K miles is 2 or 3 years of driving, so the car is essentially maintenance free for 2 or 3 years.
Have the car detailed/valeted to within an inch of its life so the car looks as good outside and inside as it can.
Sincerely,
Macster.

Three Wheelin'
Well, if you look at different sites (ebay, autotrader, craigslist) this will give your friend and idea of what people are asking for. Does not mean it will sell for that but will be a good way to start.
IMO... I will say $25k -$30k

That range is about right. Price it towards the top, say 28.5, and don't take less than around 26 unless you have to.

List it for 29,500.00? see what CarMax would pay you for it?

I just bought pretty much the same car. Mine has 19 inch wheels, upgraded steering wheel, and exhaust tips, and headlights, but other than that same car, with same miles and I paid 30K here in the SF bay area, and am very happy with my purchase. I looked around a long time and compared cars. Mine is also in MINT condition, meaning the interior is spotless could pass as new quite easily, and exterior is immaculate. Also came with 2 bras and a gift card for a tune up.

I just sold my 03 in NJ about 6 weeks ago, private sale, same color, interior, miles, but I had a decent helping of options on top. $32K. I felt pretty lucky to get that number.
Mid to upper $20s would be my best guess.
Buyers are VERY thin on the ground.
