I'll say it again but for $299, includes HD cam and all mounts, the GoPro HD Motorsports cam is the way to go. And you can do all sorts of exotic mounts including scuba down to 100 feet - so i'm told. Entire system is light enabling some of these crazy mounts.
NBC reporter from Afghanistan had one mounted on his helmet I noticed last night.

Advantages include a SD card to capture images and a re-chargable battery.

Yes I know this is not a direct answer to your question.

I had the vacuum mount then switched to the I/O Port which is attached to my harness bar. As said earlier, it's better to have the mount further back from the windshield in order to get a better perspective of the road.

I purchased this one last year from Amazon. It works great with my little Canon. I haven't tried it yet with my new Lumix ZS3, but I expect it will be fine. I clamp it to the windshield below the mirror. Since the camera is mounted upside down, I correct the video in iMovie.

yes, the flip video has a standard mount on the bottom. i think i have 3 of them. one for my wife, one for my 6 yr old (interesting perspective of how she sees life and what she wants to record) and an hd version for me.

i chose not to get a dedicated track cam but there are a bunch of great alternatives in this thread.

the BEST think about the flip is that i throw it into the briefcase and take it wherever. i'm ready to author the next Zapruder film

I think if I wanna get an extra camera, I'd probably get a dedicated track cam, would be also awesome on adventure trips, as it looks like it would work in rain, and bad weather!

IO port and Flip. First time I used it so I haven't got it exactly where I want it. On the track you have to have some type of tether on the camera. The last thing you need is camera flying around.
