Car play phone holder?
So for those who have their Cars already, what are you using to hold or mount your phone with Apple car play?
Is that (ugh) Weather Tech cup holder the best option?

Why do you need a mount if you control your phone through the Carplay interface?

Check out Rennline for custom mounts.

Maybe I phrased that wrong, where are you putting it? I have it in my Honda DD and there’s a nice nitch for it...

I just throw mine in the passenger seat if nobody is sitting there, I usually slip it in the gap between the backrest and lower seat cushion. Otherwise it goes in the center console and I may forget it and have to make a second trip back to the car.

While waiting for my Boxster GTS 4.0 to arrive (and keep company with my original 2000 Boxster S which still serves me well) I was wondering where the iPhone cable plugs in for Carplay. It seems that the USB outlet is in the center glove console. Does that mean the phone is limited to sitting inside with the center console lid closed? It cannot be out on the seat - without the center console lid down and crushing the cable?

I have a non-magnetic mount that wedges in the trim on the right side of the PCM (not my car example - picture from the mount manufacturer):
Link here: https://t-design9.com/phone_mount_981.html
There is enough room there to squeeze in a phone mount and also have it stay snug (there's an included felt pad that further makes it a snug fit).
I can't use the left cupholder with my phone in the mount, but I do have a USB cord snugged in the glove box that perfectly hooks from the glove box USB to the phone with almost no cord hanging out (and the glove box closes just fine with the cord hanging out).
Edit: I have an Android (**** Apple) so this is for me to use the phone with Waze while still having it out of the way. If you have Apple CarPlay, you should just throw it in the center console (where there's a plug) and forget about it.

I throw my iPhone in the center console and use the USB connection that's in there, but I find that the phone gets very warm when using Waze and reception is diminished a bit. (I don't have the Smartphone Compartment option.)

Has anyone used the passenger footwell net to store it?
I’m not sure about how easily it is to reach over the shifter to access that...

I have an IPhone 8 with an Otterbox. It fits perfectly in the cupholder. I have a Kenwood head unit and a USB cable coming out of the little slot in front of the gearshift. I connect that to a 8" Lightning Cable and the phone sits extremely well in the cupholder and doesn't move. Its totally stable. Not the most impressive setup but it works in this car while I wait for my GTS
